Queer. Genderqueer. ADHD. Accidental Academic.

For over 15 years, Genya (they/she) has lived, breathed, and studied LGBTQ+ health. From community-care networks, to healthcare disparities, to health system capacity building, to non-profit governance, to LGBTQ+ centered curriculum, Genya has built a portfolio of dynamic and inspiring projects and a huge network of LGBTQ+ co-conspirators.

In 2012, Genya founded Q Card Project LLC to improve communication between LGBTQ+ youth and the professionals who provide their care. The Q Card itself can now be found in almost all 50 states, plus Canada, Jamaica, and the UK. You can learn more and order supplies at QCardProject.com

Trained as a public health practitioner, Genya holds an MPH in Community-Oriented Public Health Practice from University of Washington, and a BA in Human Rights and Russian Studies* from Bard College. Additional training includes a Certificate in Medical Education Research from the Center for Leadership and Innovation in Medical Education, and completion of the African American Policy Forum’s Intersectionality and Critical Race Theory Summer School.

Genya is an Associate Teaching Professor at the University of Washington in Seattle, working in the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Health Systems and Population Health.

Outside of work, Genya can be found chasing the world’s most adorable and chaotic toddler, sipping tea, reading sapphic fiction, or watching British murder mysteries with their epidemiologist partner.

*I know this sounds oxymoronic! I wrote my senior thesis about the HIV epidemic in Russia.
